Tips to Reduce Waiting Time at the Immigration Office
Today, I’ll explain how you can complete residence registration within one hour by visiting the Immigration Office on the same day, without an appointment.
As a general rule, Immigration Offices require advance reservations. However, when you try to make a reservation, you’ll often find waiting times of around one month or longer, which can be frustrating.
Fortunately, there is an exception.
If you already hold a valid visa and only need to complete residence registration, your case can be processed without a reservation.
Even when same-day registration without an appointment is allowed, there is still one major challenge: long waiting times.
On-the-day registration is usually handled at only one service counter, and many people visit without reservations, which can result in long queues and extended waiting times.
To minimize this, I strongly recommend arriving 20–30 minutes before the Immigration Office opens.
Most Immigration Offices open at 9:00 a.m., so arriving around 8:30–8:40 a.m. is ideal.
This may not sound like a perfect solution, but based on multiple personal experiences, this method has proven to be genuinely effective. That’s why I consistently recommend it to those who want to complete residence registration on the same day.
Even if you arrive around 9:00 a.m. and take a queue number, it is common to wait one to two hours.
In some cases, even after receiving a number in the morning, the wait continues past lunchtime and into the afternoon.
For this reason, if you plan to complete residence registration on the same day, I recommend arriving as early as possible in the morning to secure a queue number quickly—even if you couldn’t line up before opening.
Please note that these tips are based primarily on experiences at Immigration Offices in Seoul and the Gyeonggi area.
Waiting times and procedures may vary slightly depending on the office.
Lastly, I’d like to share two recommendations for those planning to complete residence registration on the same day.
First, I recommend watching my video guide.
The video includes footage and explanations of procedures inside the Immigration Office, which can be especially helpful if this is your first visit and you want to understand the process in advance.

Second, get help with document preparation if needed.
